Bring Your Favorite Storybook Characters To Life with Claymates!
Getting a child to sit down and read a book can occasionally be a trying time. We are parents ourselves, we get it! Yet strong literacy skills are vital for development inside and outside of the classroom. Literacy development affects the way students communicate and problem solve. Those with strong literacy skills usually have improved cognitive ability. Literacy is a life skill and taking part in the process can develop your child’s reading ability, comprehension, and language skills. It could also improve your child’s interest in reading, attitude towards reading, and focus. We love this chart from the National Center For Improving Literacy:
With so many distractions capable of steering your child’s mind in different directions- like all of the streaming platforms- we can’t keep up, finding the right angle to capture the attention of your child with a great book might take some creativity and thinking outside of the box.
That’s where Claymates come in! Using Claymates with your child’s favorite book is a great way to make that story come alive…and stay alive long after the last page has been turned.
Step 1: Read the story with your child. This is a great way to connect with your child.
Step 2: Stop and ask questions: We recommend these questions are based off your child’s age and reading level. It would be as basic as “who, what, where, when, and why,” to “What would you do if you were the main character?” Get creative and let the conversation organically develop.
Step 3: Re-create with Claymates: Build characters using your claymates and reenact scenes, or create new scenes! Challenge you and your little one to bring their favorite story book character to life!
We would love to see your favorite storybook characters in the form of claymates! Tag us on social media!
